A Rose for Emily is one of William Faulkner?s masterpieces of short fictionalisation and is considered one of the great short stories in American literature. innate(p) in Mississippi in 1897 and descended from a long bourn of southern governors and public figures, William Faulkner is the most famous of all modern writers of the South. A Rose for Emily is written in third soul narrative and the bill is presented from the point of view of a unnamed cashier, who is believed to be long succession member of Jefferson, the town in which the narrative takes place. The novella opens with the death of Miss Emily Grierson and proceeds to tell the story of her life in the years pencil leading up to her death. Although very little of Miss Emily is described, it is clear that she represents is influenced by the bound tradition of the town. When she was alive, Miss Emily was considered ?a tradition, a duty, and a reverence; a sort of hereditary obligation on the town,? (Faulkner 203) entirely now that she is dead, she has joined ?the representatives of those august names where they lay ? among the stratified and anonymous graves of Union and Confederate soldiers who fell at the battle of Jefferson.
