In this way, when a conflict arouse surrounded by Austria-Hungry and Serbia, the moment war declared upon Serbia, their ally, Russia, became involved. Then of course, Germany was obligated to begin involved to protect Austria-Hungry. This water effect trickled down until France, Britain, Belgium, and lacquer were involved as well.



Eventually Italy and the United States joined. This complex mesh of alliances is known as the Mutual Defense Alliances and was responsible for involving all the countries in the war.
Imperialism was also a rising matter that evoke the first world war. Most countries wished to expand there boarders; therefore, gaining wealth and power. Europe, at the time, controlled most of Asia along with parts of every other country and because of this they were very wealthy. It is to be expected that most countries would begrudge the increasing power that Europe gained, which caused rivalry. This aspect was also a major instigator to the war.
